Meeting safely
Most meetups take five minutes and go fine. These steps keep it that way.
- Meet in a busy public place on campus, during the day.
- Check the book before any money changes hands.
- Pay in person, in cash or with an instant payment app. Never pay in advance.
- Keep messages in the chat. Never share bank details, passwords or login codes.
- Tell a friend where you're going, or bring one with you.
Good places to meet
- The library entrance or lobby
- The student union or a campus café
- Outside a staffed building, like a reception desk
What to check on the book
- The ISBN and edition match your syllabus
- No missing or loose pages
- Highlighting and writing match the listing
- No water damage or strong smells
- If an access code is included, it hasn't been used
If something feels wrong
It's fine to walk away. If someone pressures you, asks for payment in advance, or makes you feel unsafe, stop the meetup and tell us. If you are in danger, contact campus security or local emergency services.
